Chelsea & Meatpacking District Jane Jacobs Walking Tour
This past weekend over 100 Municipal Arts Society walking tours took place throughout the New York City metro area to pay homage to the late preservationist, Jane Jacobs. Environmental activists, historians, and residents of the 5 boroughs came out to share their passion, expertise, and enthusiasm for the neighborhoods in which they work and live. Damsels in Design was fortunate to host a walking tour of the Meatpacking District and the Chelsea Arts District. Jennifer Markas, Founder of DID, led 30 walkers throughout these art and design hubs pointing out new and old sights alike including Chelsea Market, the Little Flatiron Building, the site for the new Whitney Museum, and the Highline. Attendees included seasoned architects, fashion designers, marketing professionals, and retired historians. All of them added to the walking conversation by recounting memories, history, and opinions about current development. Damsels in Design looks forward to hosting a walk again next year!
